Beyond The Classroom

Visual Art

At Banner we believe that every individual can be an artist; one just needs the encouragement and the opportunity for this lifelong creative pursuit to blossom. From drawing and painting to ceramics and sculpting, Banner students discover the joy of artistic expression. While exploring their own creativity, students also learn about art history, various artists from around the world, and numerous styles of art and the media used to create them. Students at Banner have the opportunity to have their work displayed each year in Frederick’s Delaplaine Visual Art Center, and many participate in the Lions Club’s Peace Poster Contest, a local Fire Prevention Month poster contest, and The Frederick News-Post’s Design an Ad contest. Our student artists also design holiday cards for the School to mail to its constituents throughout the country. Visual art frequently extends beyond the art room, too, with lessons in history, Spanish, and literature incorporating art projects and student handiwork. At The Banner School, visual art is a core subject, as we believe that art sustains us as human beings emotionally, creatively, and intellectually.
